At Utopia, we introduced a weapons and open hand assessment for students who take part in our weapons classes. This was designed to provide the opportunity for students who do not take part in our regular karate classes to gain belts of a different styles and be able to have a visible representation of their progress. These assessments take place every four months while our karate gradings are every three months. Unlike our karate gradings, these assessments take place during the students regular week class unless they are going for green stripe and above. Students who are going for green stripe and above attend their assessment on the saturday of the week of the assessment. As these assessments take place in class, they are optional to students and if a student doesn’t want to take part in the assessment, they can attend their usual class as normal.
